Christians Targeted in Kashmir Valley
The Evangelical Fellowship of India (EFI) has called upon Mr. Omar Abdullah, the Chief Kashmir valley where Christians are living in fear since the Sharia court started the hate campaign against the Christians and the Christian schools there since January 19, 2012. There are unconfirmed reports that some of the Christian families have fled the valley to safer places.
The anti-Christian campaign first started in Srinagar in October when fundamentalists accused Church of North India pastor Mr. C.M. Khanna with forcible and fraudulent conversions in the city. Police later arrested him on fabricated charges. Simultaneously, a rumor campaign was mounted against the Christian schools which have been in the city for more than a century. The school principals were accused of luring students to Christianity.
A fact finding team met with the head of Sharia court and other leaders and told them there could be no forcible or fraudulent conversions. The Team came to the conclusion that the entire episode had been engineered by various local groups as part of their political agenda. What deeply disappointed the Christian community is the attitude of the state government, which is the upholder of the law. The team appealed to the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter so that the people can live in peace and the Christian institutions are allowed to function without threats and blackmail.
