Findlay, Ohio, USA: Mathew Abraham, 72, died Saturday, March 23, 2013 at his home following a time of illness. He leaves his wife of 49 years, Rachel Abraham; his sons, Benjamin Abraham and Ray Abraham; his daughter-in-law, Amy Abraham and many close friends and relatives.
Born and raised in Elanthoor, Kerala, India on June 23, 1941, the son of T.J. Abraham and Saramma Abraham, he migrated to the US in 1966 and was a resident of Findlay, Ohio for the last 37 years. Mr. Abraham was the first to attend college in his family securing a Bachelor Science in Physics degree from Kerala University in 1960. After migrating to the U.S., Mr. Abraham completed a degree in Environmental Science from Findlay University. He began his career as a high school teacher in the US and retired as a quality officer from North American Philips Corporation, Ottawa, OH in 2000.
Mr. Abraham was a loving family man and helped his siblings and other extended family members extensively. He was a devout Christ-follower and had a passion for preaching and teaching. He was one of the founding members of an Asian-Indian Church in Detroit, MI in the late 1970s. Later he became a member of Christian Fellowship Chapel, Toledo, OH. Mr. Abraham also had a passion for gardening and was very successful in maintaining a home garden.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME.
Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM Tuesday.
Pastor Abby Johnson will officiate and burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association of Northwest Ohio.
